First Attempt

Back in high school, I took a sewing class with my two best friends.  It was a one night a week for a month kind of class.  We made multiple things, but the only two I seem to remember are a tote bag and a table runner, which my mom still uses.  It was fun, but that's about all the experience I have when it comes to sewing.  And I was 17.  Fast forward 6 years...I now have my own sewing machine!
As mentioned above, I am no seamstress.  I don't really know much when it comes to sewing.  Darren bought me this machine for Christmas for a few reasons.  First, I'd love to be able to sew.  I'm always seeing little projects I'd love to try, and in order to do that, I'd need a sewing machine.  Second, he's always needing random pieces of clothing fixed.  I could hand stitch those...but lets be honest, who would want to do that?  And third, in the long run, it's cheaper for us to buy a machine that can embroider his work shirts than to pay someone else.  So...there's the history behind sewing and my machine.
A few weeks ago, I decided to attempt to make something.  All by myself.  Dun dun dun...  Here are some pictures of the process:
Cutting out the pattern
Sewing fabric together with my beautiful sewing machine
The finished product!  Far from perfect, but it's recognizable as a skirt, no?

So here's the funny part.  I swear on my LIFE that the pattern was WRONG.  I did everything it said, cut out all the pieces, and it just DIDN'T fit together.  It made absolutely no sense.  And I swear it wasn't me, it was the pattern.  I followed directions to the T!  So...I did my own thing.  I ended up making my OWN pattern.  That being said, I think I did a pretty good job.  But hopefully my next pattern will make sense.

What should I make next?

P.S. Fabric is not cheap!

Christmas

I can't believe Christmas has come and gone...and it's almost 2012!  This year has really flown by!

I love the Christmas season.  I love wearing boots and big jackets, seeing your breath in the crisp morning air, being wrapped in a blanket on the couch, and potato soup!  It really is the most wonderful time of the year!
And the stockings were hung...
Christmas Eve was a lot of fun.  We had dinner at Steve's house.  There was enough food to feed 5 more families!  We also had a white elephant gift exchange and then the annual Hunsaker Nativity.

Christmas day was fun!  We started the morning with our gifts, then headed over to Nate and Lalani's.  I also got to stop by David and Jessica's and watch Caiden open his gifts.  We went to church.  There was a wonderful musical program put together that really helped us get into the spirit of Christmas.  It's important to remember the reason for the season!  Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Savior, and also his life and all that he did for us!  After church, we had delish potato soup and  Mom, Dad, and Sandra also stopped by.  I spent the rest of the evening playing with my new gift =)
Super awesome sewing/embroidery machine!  Thanks Darren =D

Did you have a Merry Christmas?

Our Weekend

Well, we had an eventful weekend over here!  How about you?  Darren and I got to watch my cutie nephew Brocky for the weekend!  My sister Kristy and her hubby went to NYC last Thursday.  Mom had all 5 of the fartin' Martin's till Friday evening.  Then the older 4 went to their other Grandma's while I got the baby =).  I was looking forward to a fun weekend.  But...the weekend had other plans...

When my mom dropped of Brock, she mentioned he had been a little warm and clingy.  So I took him home, gave him some medicine and put him to bed, no problem.
Then the fun started...  Friday night, I decided to wash my face with this sample face wash from Melaleuca.  First, I put just a little of the face lotion on my cheek just to see what would happen.  I waited a few hours to see if I'd get a rash or something, but nothing happened!  So what did I do?  I used it all.  Washed my face, then used the face lotion and went to bed.  I woke up around 6 am to give Brock a bottle and when I would blink, I could tell I was a little swollen.  But I didn't want to SEE how bad it was, so instead I got an ice pack, put it on my face, then went back to bed.  Brock woke back up around 8 so I got out of bed and...looked in the mirror.  I was SO swollen, my eyelids had 3 rolls.  You read that right, 3 ROLLS!  I had a chin dimple as well, and very...plump...lips.  I took a picture, but not sure I want to post it on here...it's bad.  Lets just say, I looked a little like this...
Don't believe me?  Ask my husband...  I was SO MAD!  But that's what I get for trying a new face wash.  I ended up going to the doctor and getting a magic pill that made my face all better a short 24 hours later =).

Anyway, then poor Brock had a fever all weekend and was always sad and wanting to be held...  My husband is amazing.  He was up with Brock at 5 am till about 7 am on Sunday morning, rocking him, feeding him, trying to get him to go back to sleep, etc.  We loved having Brock, but it was just sad seeing him feeling to cruddy.  Poor guy...  Hopefully he's feeling better.  Thanks for letting us watch your little baby boy, Kristy!  Hope you had a fun time in NYC =)

Eventful weekend, that was!  How was yours?  Do you have all your Christmas shopping done?

I was looking at my calendar today when it hit me...

It's December on Thursday...seriously!?  Where did these last few months go?  Christmas is sooooo soon...

I'm running out of things to post if you can't tell.  Side note, Darren's in Vegas visiting his mama and papa right now.  Just a quick little trip...left this afternoon, will be back tomorrow by dinner.  I hope he has a good visit!

Almost there...

So NaBloPoMo is almost done.  I haven't been perfect with posting, but not too bad either!  All I can say is that I am quickly running out of things to post...I was running out awhile ago!

Christmas is around the corner and I'm thrilled.  I've been listening to Christmas music since October, if not before!  This is our second Christmas in this home, it's fun being able to get at real tree and decorate the house all up.  Yesterday, Darren got out our Christmas bucket.  We put away the Thanksgiving decorations and started putting up the Christmas ones.  Darren also put up our Christmas lights, they look great!  Thanks hubby!  Next week we'll go get our tree from Costco and then it'll really be Christmas!  I even started wrapping presents today =)

Our Christmas Tree set up last year...

I love this time of year...I love everything about it.

Black Friday/Day After

Thanksgiving was yesterday, it was wonderful!  On our way home from my mom's, Darren and I did some Black Friday shopping at Walmart.  We had the PERFECT plan.  We got there at 9, picked up all our 10 pm items, and by 10 pm, we were camped out next to Darren's blu-ray home theater.  We weren't allowed to touch that till 12 pm.  It was a long night, but we had fun with it.  Darren, of course, became friends with all those around him and was just chatting it up all night while waiting.  At about 11 pm, I headed over to get in line.  The plan was I'd wait in line, when I got to the front, I'd just let people go in front of me till Darren got there at 12 with the blu-ray.  That way...no waiting!  Well, at about 11:30, I was at the front of the line and turned to let others go ahead of me.  Only...it turned out, EVERYONE behind me was ALSO waiting until 12!  They let the electronics out at 11:45, so Darren joined me in line then, but we couldn't check out till 12.  The second midnight hit, we were checking out!  We were to our car by 12:15 =).  Couldn't have gone any more smoother, I don't think.

Today, the day after Thanksgiving, I have been confined to the couch.  Last night after kickball, I started to not feel so great.  This head cold has not been fun...but I'm sitting up now so it's a step in the right direction!

How was your day after?  Did you go Black Friday shopping?
