Christmas is almost HERE!

I think...

The calendar SAYS it's only 12 days away, but the weatherman says it's gonna be 81 today!  I'm not sure which to believe..

BOTH!  Why?  Because I live in Arizona.  And Arizona doesn't seem to understand the term "White Christmas" or even "Winter".  Silly Arizona..

Anyway, Christmas is indeed approaching quickly!  Are you ready?  Are you stockings hung?  Is your tree decorated?  Have you finished your Christmas shopping?  Here are some pictures of what our home looks like these days.
So here's a story.  Last week when we were setting up our tree, it didn't take long to realize that it was FULL of loose pine needles.  And I mean full.  So before putting the skirt down and everything, Darren and Matt gave it their best cleaning job.  Look at that pile! =)

But alas, our tree is perfect and beautiful =).  I love Christmas!  Hope your Christmas preperations are going great as well!

We did it!

Darren and I had our one year anniversary yesterday!  It was pretty exciting, one year is a fun accomplishment.  Since our anniversary fell on a Sunday, we celebrated on Saturday.  First we spent the day together putting up Christmas lights (our lights are amazing!).

For dinner, we went to Firebird in Chandler.  It's a steak house and the food was delicious!  I got stuffed real fast.  After dinner, we had planned on going to a movie but at this point, Darren and I were both pretty tired.  So instead, we decided to head home.

Well, we stopped at 2 different Targets, got a few things we needed, and stopped at Albertsons.  So...we basically got home at the same time we would have if we HAD gone to the movie.  Silly us...  But I really enjoyed spending the whole day with Darren.  I also got spoiled with BEAUTIFUL flowers!
Sunday, we had church then Darren's family came over for dinner.  It was fun spending time with all of them and I got to meet my beautiful niece Rebekah for the first time!  You always forget how tiny newborns are.  Also on Sunday, we got to eat our cake!  Darren and I didn't plan on saving the top layer, but my mom decided to anyway.  So we brought that out and everyone got some.  And you know what?  It was delicious!  Didn't taste a year old at all.
Happy Anniversary to us!

CAUTION

That has been our home for three weeks now.  A few weeks ago, the tile.  After that we got about a week and a half break..time to clean, relax, and enjoy our new tile.  Then came...the counter tops.
And a few days after the counter tops got installed, came PAINT!  So basically, the Hunsaker household has been under construction for nearly a month now.
Dust
Tile pieces lying around
Random spots of carpet over concrete
No counter tops or sink
More dust
Wood shavings in kitchen drawers
Moving furniture
Lots of dust
Emptying closets and pantry
Smelling paint
And just when you think you've got the floor or tables clean, more DUST
I have LOVED every minute of it!

Yes, it has been crazy and hectic at our home, but we can't wait till it's done!  So every speck of dust has been worth it.  Thanks to my amazing husband for making all this happen!  Here are some pics of the progress:
They started with the ceilings, and I already prefer white ceilings over the tan we had!

Pray it doesn't rain!

I love my home, I'm excited to see the changes, and I love my husband for all the work he's done to make our renovations possible.  Life is wonderful =)

Christine Ann

It has been awhile since I've put an update on my mother-in-law so I thought I'd do that.  Last time I blogged about her, I mentioned how she would probably be moving into a group home there in Vegas.  Well...plans changed a little.  Instead of going to that group home, she went to a Skilled Nursing Home (still in Vegas).  Darren and I haven't seen the place yet, but from what we've heard, she's really enjoying it.  Here are some pictures from the hospital:
Metting her newest (at the time) grandchild, Luke
All smiles!
Enjoying spending time with her Johnson grandchildren
Jackson and Samuel went and visited

Now here are some from the new place.  Here, she doesn't have to wear a hospital gown.  She doesn't have to stay in her room all day.  She gets to go on walks in her wheel chair and spend time with others at the home.  She gets to eat dinner in a dining room too.  From what I've heard, she has enjoyed it.  A good change =).  Here are some more recent pictures:
When no one is pushing her chair, she flinstones her way around.
My sister in law Tricia put that collage together for her a few months back. It's way neat and I'm sure she loves it =)

So there's the update!  She's doing wonderul and progressing each day.

A MESS!

That's what our house is right now.  A complete MESS.  But it's a mess for the good of the house so I guess it's okay.  This is what our home looked like on Monday night...
And now...it looks like........................................
I'll post more pictures when it's really done.  Darren and I are way excited =) we love it!

Pumpkins & Apples

Lately I've been trying fo find cute decorations to spice up my house..not that my house is dull or anything, it's just big.  Big means lots of space to fill.  And lets face it..we've only been married a year and haven't accumulated enough stuff to use to FILL that space.  So lately, that's been on my mind.  I usually just blog jump and find cute ideas that I can do for cheap, and here's one I came across.  It's nothing fancy, but it's simple and cheap.  The items used for this are:
  • orange & red paint
  • toilet paper & paper towel rolls
  • paint brush
  • hot glue gun
  • twine (the lady at Michael's called it something different but I can't for the LIFE of me figure it out so we're going with twine)
By cutting the toilet paper rolls in strips, painting them, and glueing them together, I came up with this!

A pumpkin!  Here's the process...
Red for the apples

Pair them all up...

And the finished project...

Nothing amazing, but it adds a little something to the room and I had fun making them!

There you have it, apples & pumpkins

My Crazy Is Showing

Funny stories are great, don't you think?  So here are two stories that might get a giggle out of you.  Yes it's at my expense, but they are just too funny NOT to share.  So despite the embarrassment that might arise from these stories, I am going to share them with you.

Store #1:
Last Thursday I was TIRED.  Now I don't mean being so bored you are about to fall asleep.  I mean...I could barely keep my eyes open the 8 hours I was at work, and almost fell asleep on the drive home despite the music blaring to keep that from happening.  So the instant I walked into my house, I hit the couch and was asleep within seconds, I'm sure.
THIS is how ZONKED I was...
Darren was in the garage putting together these shelves he got when this happened.  I had been asleep for probably a half hour when Darren sat on the other couch and put on some football.  I slept for another hour but woke up occasionally to the sound of Darren yelling at the game.  Now, in one of these instances when I sort of woke up, I noticed I was laying on my arm funny and it had fallen asleep.  So, still not 100% awake, I sat up to readjust my arm and said to Darren, "My hand's frozen".  Yes, you read that right.  My hand is frozen?!?! My hand wasn't frozen, it was numb and tingly!  I remember this vividly too.  My brain then said to itself, C'mon Emily, your hand isn't frozen, it's tingling.  Why are you saying your hand is frozen?  You're meaning to say it's tingly and numb.  After correcting my thought in my brain, I attempted to communicate it to Darren once more.  "I mean...my hand's..frozen."  Your hand is NOT frozen, Emily! Darren continued to give me a confused look and I proceeded, for the THIRD time, to say "My hand is frozen!"  Finally, my brain said Forget it Emily.  It's not worth it.  Lay back down and go to sleep.  So this I did.  That night while laying in bed that all came back to my memory.  It was the weirdest feeling!  I was thinking one thing but I was so tired I could not for the life of me put that thought into correct words!  Weird!  I thought I was going crazy...

Story #2:
Last night, Darren had a blacklight service at around 7:30 pm.  They took off and I had the house to myself to enjoy my Grey's Anatomy.
Only thing...that wasn't until 8.  So meanwhile, I flipped between channel 713 and 715.  Family Feud
(with the NEW host..not nearly as good but Family Feud none the less)
...and last weeks Grey's Anatomy.  I laid there and hit the "last" button whenever a commercial came on.  Around 7:40, Family Feud went to commercial so I hit "last" and the channel changed.  About five minutes later...I kid you not, it took five minutes for this to register...I realized I wasn't watching Grey's or Family Feud.  Cops was on.
*Bad boys, bad boys...*
COPS!?  How in the world did I get on channel 45?  I hit "last" and it went back to 713.  The confusion started to set in.  What in the world happened?  Did I fall asleep and change the channel to 45?  No...I had been awake the whole time.  Did I lay on the remote and change it on accident?  No..the remote was on the coffee table.  Did Cops start to record so I could only watch that?  No..it wasn't a new one.  So HOW in the world did I get on channel 45 without realizing it, and WHY did it take me a whole Cops five minute foot chase to realize it?
For the next hour and a half, all through the Grey's Anatomy and part of Private Practice, I laid there in frustration and confusion.  I hated that I couldn't figure out where channel 45 came from.  I was so frustrated I had to call a few friends and share my confusion/really funny moment with friends.  They know who they are haha..  One friend and I decided that when I get to heaven, I should ask to see "The Life of Emily" movie and rewind it to October 7th, 2010, 7:40 pm.  Then...the truth came out.
Darren got home from his blacklight service around 9:30.  Immediately I told him the story and how it was the craziest thing and I thought I was losing my mind.  Darren simply chucked and said, "Well, you are crazy, but I know what happened.  See the button that says 'FAV' right under the button that says 'LAST'?  Press it"  I did...and what happened?  IT WENT TO CHANNEL 45!
     THE END

Okay...reading back, I now realize that these stories are a lot funnier when told in person.  So if you've actually read the stories and made it this far in the post, WOW!  I feel special.  If not, I don't blame you.

There are my two "I'm going crazy" stories for the day!  Have a wonderful weekend everyone =)

Hello October!

Can you believe it?  OCTOBER!?  Where does the time go?  I remember when time seemed to drag on by...weird.

This weekend was wonderful!  Matt was out of town so I got my husband all to myself all weekend!  Friday night we worked on this...

And finished it!  Well..sort of.  Matt borrowed (I think) this puzzle from a friend and we've been working on it every night for a week now.  But here's where the sort of finished it part comes in.  You can't tell in this picture, but there's one puzzle piece missing.  Where'd it go?  3 options!
1. Who ever Matt borrowed this puzzle from lost the piece
2. WE lost the piece or..
3. Matt didn't want Darren and I to finish the puzzle without him, so he took a piece with him to Utah!  Which is it...hmm...

Saturday was filled with pancakes for breakfast, conference, naps, and more conference.  A wonderful relaxing Saturday!  That night, while Darren faithfully attended the priesthood session, I got to spend time with my friend Megan and her sisters & mom making my very first halloween decorations.  They turned out so CUTE and I LOVE them!  Thanks so much for inviting me, Meg!
AHH!!!
Topped off with delicious gob-stoppers.

Sunday was filled with aebleskivers for breakfast, conference, more naps, and football.  What a wonderful weekend it was!

P.S. My new Halloween decorations have put me into a crafty mood.  I have another creation in mind.  More to come!
